Project story

Engineering review for a compact wearable

An existing compact wearable needed an organised engineering review before further development. We Master Design delivered a prioritised issue register and review closeout package. The client accepted the review, providing a documented basis for discussing the next design stage.

The design question

The project called for reviewing the current design and separating decisions that could move forward from questions that needed further evidence. In a small wearable, the enclosure, internal components and servicing approach affect one another. Changing one area can introduce new questions elsewhere.

The immediate goal was an accepted review package that made those questions visible and actionable.

Our role

We Master Design reviewed the existing engineering design, organised the findings and recorded their disposition. The work identified priorities for development alongside inputs and validation questions that remained open.

The review also distinguished the existing approved scope from a potential redesign. That kept a recommendation from being mistaken for an authorised geometry change.

How decisions were organised

Each open issue needed a clear next step. Some could support a design direction; others depended on component information or later validation. Those distinctions were retained in the review record rather than hidden behind a finished-looking presentation.

Serviceability was one of the topics carried into subsequent development discussions. Proposed changes still needed an agreed scope and the supporting information required to develop them responsibly.

Delivered work

  • Engineering review findings for the existing design.
  • A prioritised issue register with recorded dispositions.
  • A closeout package documenting the accepted review stage.
  • Defined questions and dependencies for the next design decisions.

The outcome and its boundary

The client accepted the engineering review package. That outcome concerns the completed review stage. Physical testing, redesign implementation and manufacturing release were separate decisions and are not claimed as results of this work.

This project shows the value of making the next engineering decisions explicit before extending the design scope.
